Discover Myths and Monsters from Asia
I discovered the mana in my father's shifting eyes and muffled voice when he told scary stories. Too afraid to say her name, he'd often instead say mumu, bogeyman, or aswang - an umbrella term for Philippine mythical monsters.

Later, I wanted to know everything about her. I looked first in Maximo Ramos' book The Aswang Complex, then got his books on Philippine mythology. Illustrations online of the mana and other aswang have multiplied in recent years. Then came The Aswang Project, unarguably the most extensive, entertaining, and diverse website for all things aswang.

So why provide another resource for aswang? Because rather than focusing on information that perpetuates historical perceptions of Asian monsters, this discovery site focuses on the vindication of those monsters and the re-writing and re-vising of traditional myth.
